Isuarsivik Regional Recovery Centre acts as an addiction Recovery Centre for the 14 communities of Nunavik in northern Quebec. The Centre offers an 8-week in-house program in addition to a variety of continued care services including individual, couple, and family meetings, community support group activities as well as recovery sessions directly on the land.
In this context, the Youth Services Coordinator in the Inuit Values and Practices department plays a crucial role in:
- Assisting in the development and delivery of activities, programs and therapeutic services for youths 0- to 17-year-old based on Inuit culture and practices within thedaycare and the classroom;
- Working with other departments to ensure all services and activities offered by Isuarsivik are culturally relevant and safe;
- Promoting the development of a positive cultural identity amongst Inuit staff andclients.
Purpose of position
Under the direction of the Manager Inuit Values and Practices, the Coordinator – Youth Services is responsible to assist in the day-to-day functioning, implementation and coordination of activities, programs and therapeutic services for youth staying at the Centre based on Inuit culture and practices.
Essential duties
and responsibilities
Planning
- Assists in the development and improvement of programs and services.
- Ensures the inclusion of strong culture as well as on-the-land components for all youth services.
- Assist in the planning and development of activities, programs and therapeutic services for youth such as early childhood education programs, educational curriculum & cultural activities.
- Work alongside the Human Resources department for planning, hiring, training and professional development of all reporting staff; such as early childhood educators & schoolteachers.
Management
- In collaboration with the Manager – Inuit Values and Practices, provides support to employees of the department’s team.
- Collaborates with other program coordinators and managers to support recovery process of youth guests and integration of services.
- In collaboration with Manager – Inuit Values and Practices, ensures services and activities offered by Isuarsivik are culturally relevant and safe.
- Assists in evaluating the youth services offered by the department and assists in implementing the necessary changes to meet the needs of clients.
- Liaise with partner organizations to ensure proper coordination and integration of services at the community and regional levels including recreation, early childhood education, social services and school.
Qualifications
Education
- High School diploma.
- College or university diploma in a discipline of social intervention would be considered an asset.
- Training in counselling would be considered an asset.
- Training on child development would be considered an asset.
- Completion of a management program would be considered an asset.
Work experience
- 1 year of experience as supervisor or coordinator.
- 2 years of experience in the field of youth services (social services, youth protection, rehabilitation, early childhood education, school, or recreation).
- Experience in service planning would be considered an asset.
Knowledge and Skills
- Personal and professional experience in a cross-cultural setting.
- Ability to draft reports, documents, and work plans on a computer.
- Strong ability to work independently and in a team.
- Willingness to work outside standard office hours.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Willingness to submit to a criminal records check.
Language
- Ability to read, write and speak Inuktitut as well as English is mandatory.

Salary / Benefits
