A Challenge to reflect on our relationship with substance use, both individually and as a community.

Each year in February, participants are encouraged to identify recovery goals that are realistic and respectful of their personal circumstances.

Whether they choose to change their substance use habits or not, the Pingngupaa Challenge offers an opportunity to initiate positive change toward sobriety or reduced substance use. It also encourages participants to explore ways to minimize related risks and reflect on the role substance use plays in their lives.

Renewed Challenge

Beginning in 2026, Pingngupaa is evolving into a more supportive challenge for participants. There will no longer be a requirement to find sponsors or collect donations. As a result, the regional draw for participants and sponsors will also be discontinued. However, we promise a few surprises for participants—because everyone enjoys a gift!

This February, it will be important to keep you busy, mentally and physically. Here are some great ideas to enjoy your favorite activities or try new habits.

Start a sewing project
Start a beading project
Go for a walk on the land
Experience a cross-country skiing activity
Visit an elder and listen to some storytelling
Spend time with friends
Stack your freezer with ready-to-eat meal
Go to the gym
Read a book or a magazine
Improve your Inuktitut skills
Experience the art of journaling
Build a shelf, or repair something
Drive to your cabin, and plan a sleepover
Create your new favorite non-alcoholic drink
Clean the house/garage or organize your storage
Practice yoga stretching or meditation
