The Early Childhood Educator plays a crucial role in supporting young children in all aspects of their overall development, hygiene, health, welfare, and safety while their parent(s) undertake(s) the inpatient recovery program.

Purpose of position

Under the direction of the Inuit Values and Practices (IVP) Manager and the day-to-day supervision of the Coordinator of Youth Services, the Early Childhood Educator is responsible for young children (0 month to 5 years old) in all aspects of their overall development, hygiene, health, welfare, and safety. The Educator is also in charge of planning and applying an educational program for each age group assigned to them while the children’s parents are guests at the Centre.

Essential duties
and responsibilities

Planning and delivery of services
  • Plans and implements the educational program to foster the children’s development.
  • Plans and carries out transitions and routines.
  • Provides services to children with special needs.
  • Ensures and promotes the health and safety of children.
  • Ensures quality communications with parents and clinical staff.
  • Cooperates with fellow team members.
  • Creates and maintains files for each child under their care, and prepares the reports requested.
  • Other duties as required.
Administration
  • Attends all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement.

Qualifications

Education
  • High School Diploma (an asset).
  • Specialized training in early childhood education.
  •  Diploma or certificate (an asset) or willingness to enroll in a
    qualifying training program.
Work experience
  • 1 year in a similar position.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Personal and professional experience in a cross-cultural setting.
  • Strong ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to work outside standard office hours.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook (an asset).
  • High-level understanding of confidentiality requirements and ability to act responsibly and ethically.
Language
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Inuktitut as well as English (mandatory).
  • Ability to read, write, and speak French (an asset).
