At Isuarsivik, the Continued Care Department serves as the entry point for Inuit and their loved ones seeking access to recovery services. The team is responsible for the intake and assessment process, including evaluating guests’ readiness for change and developing personalized recovery plans. These plans may include participation in the in-house recovery program, the healing on the land healing week, or external counselling services.
The Cultural Healing Worker integrates Inuit cultural knowledge, values, and traditional practices to their role as community outreach. The Cultural Healing Worker is an ally to everyone seeking help and supports continuity of care by building relationships with interested individuals and helping them navigate the different steps of healing.
Purpose of position
Under the leadership of the Coordinator – Community Services, the Cultural Healing Worker acts as a liaison between community members seeking support and the counselling team. The Cultural Healing Worker facilitates access to services by promoting awareness of substance use and wellness within communities, and providing guidance throughout the continued care journey of individuals.
Essential duties
and responsibilities
- Facilitate cultural activities to engage and connect with community members.
- Promote awareness of addictions, wellness, recovery, and the services available through Isuarsivik within Nunavik communities.
- Liaise community members with Isuarsivik counsellors as part of the intake process.
- Support individuals in completing applications and accessing Isuarsivik services, including assisting with the logistics of virtual counselling sessions.
- Provide ongoing encouragement, guidance, and follow-up to individuals before and after their participation in services.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to client interactions, referrals, and follow-up activities.
- Respect confidentiality and interact with guests and community members in a culturally safe, respectful, and professional manner.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
- Promote Isuarsivik services and participate in community outreach activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Completion of a high school diploma in a relevant field.
- Cegep diploma or specific training in a discipline of social intervention is considered an asset.

- Experience in the field of social intervention, addictions, or wellness.
Knowledge and skills
- Strong knowledge of Inuit culture
- High level of empathy and care for others
- Facility in making connections and partnerships
- Ability to draft reports, documents and work plans on a computer.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Language
- Ability to read, write and speak English and Inuktitut is mandatory.
- French proficiency is considered an asset.
