Isuarsivik Regional Recovery Centre acts as an addiction recovery centre for the 14 communities of Nunavik in northern Quebec. The Centre offers an 8-week in-house program in addition to a variety of continued care services including individual, couple, and family meetings, community support group activities as well as recovery sessions directly on the land.

In this context, the Coordinator – Attendants plays a crucial role in:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day management of attendants to ensure safety and quality services of guests during their time at the Centre.
  • Implementing measures to maintain health certification standards from Accreditation Canada and the Quebec Department of Health and Social Services (MSSS).
  • Daily promoting and embodying values with colleagues, guests, and all stakeholders.
  • Establishing wellness and safety practices to foster a positive and empowering workplace for all.

Purpose of position

Under the direction of the Recovery Manager, the Coordinator – Attendants is a team leader who oversees the application of clinical processes and policies to ensure the smooth delivery and quality of Isuarsivik’s services. The Coordinator – Attendants is a great communicator and solution-driven individual who is also responsible for identifying and managing risks, as well as sharing them with department management. More specifically, the Coordinator – Attendants will be in charge of the supervision of the Attendants and the day-to-day experience of guests during their time at the Centre.

Essential duties
and responsibilities

Guests

  • Welcome guests and perform the welcome intake procedure for Attendants.
  • Familiarize yourself with the shift report and update the shift report at the end of each shift.
  • Listen to guests that may be processing the experience of their stay and report back to Counsellors when required.
  • Contact the Recovery Counsellor on-call for all crisis situations.
  • Handle guest medications according to the medication protocol.
  • Ensure guests respect their commitment to the recovery centre rules, participating in the treatment program as per their engagement upon arrival and are aware of the consequences of non-participation.
  • Address guests’ concerns and discuss them with recovery team if needed.
  • Undertake and oversee periodic room checks for cleanliness and/or prohibited substances.
  • Advise supervisor of concerns relating to guests and/or activities at the Centre.


Guest Files

  • Manage and maintain guest files, records and reports.
  • Oversee maintenance of a complete file on each assigned guest which includes (running record regarding guest behaviour, attitude, activities and progress for the entire stay at the Centre).
  • Maintain strict guest confidentiality.

 

Management

  • Responsible for scheduling the attendants, negotiating absences and replacing such staff.
  • Responsible for filling cancelled/no show shifts.
  • Assist in screening/interviewing of new Attendants-along with HR and Recovery Manager
  • Onboard of new Attendants.
  • Assist in creating and leading training for Attendants- along with HR, trainer/consultant and Recovery Manager.
  • Provide supervision/mentorship to attendants as required and with the support of the Manager.
  • Assist in the creation of all Attendant tools and documentation.
  • Responsible for liaising with Recovery Department and Inuit Values and Practices Department for implementation of activities related to the youth, adult and group services and extracurricular activities for the program guests.
  • Work with the Recovery Program Manager on linkages with external providers who also are involved in the program’s planning, scheduling, liaising.
  • Participate in the self-assessment process with the Recovery Program Manager for employees.
  • Train new employees in the day-to-day functions of their job.
  • Assist Recovery Program Manager to ensure program compliance with mandatory reporting laws, incident reporting, ethical guidelines and other reporting guidelines as required.

 

Teamwork

  • Attend daily team meetings and provide constructive feedback to other counselling staff.
  • Debrief daily with counselors and inform evening attendants of any major issues/concerns prior to their shift.
  • Complete and submit required incident reports to supervisor.
  • Maintain confidentiality of staff and guests verbally, written, and on social media platforms.
  • Participate in on-call shifts rotation during the cycle.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Education
  • University degree, in a discipline of social intervention is an asset.
Work experience
  • 1 year of experience as supervisor or coordinator.
  • 2 years of experience in the field of social services, experience in facilitation is considered an asset.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong communication (both oral and written) skills.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to use tact and diplomacy and work under pressure.
  • Willingness to receive coaching.
  • Able to use all common office equipment including computer, projector and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Promotes and maintains a healthy lifestyle in the community.
  • Maintain the highest levels of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality.
  • Self-reliant, good problem solver and results oriented.
  • Personal and professional experience in a cross-cultural setting.
  • Candidate must be willing to submit to a criminal records check.
Language
  • Ability to read, write and speak English are mandatory.
  • Ability to read, write and speak French is considered an asset.

*Candidates with ability to read, write and speak Inuktitut will be prioritized.

Work environment

  • The incumbent must balance multiple demands and urgent requests from guests, staff and partners. 
  • Must be prepared to meet the personal and professional challenges associated with living in a northern, isolated community with limited resources.

Salary / Benefits

  • Working conditions are based on Nunavik’s health and social services network.
  • Salary will be determined depending on qualifications and experience.
