The Maintenance Worker plays a crucial role in:

  • Carrying out maintenance work as well as preventive and physical upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Handling and transportation of goods, furniture, and other materials.
  • Working with other departments to ensure all services and activities offered by Isuarsivik are culturally relevant and safe.

Purpose of position

Under the direction of the Administration Manager, and the day-to-day supervision of the Coordinator of Administration, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintenance, minor repairs, and coordination of specialized repairs for the Centre and all Isuarsivik buildings.

Essential duties
and responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance on all buildings, including preventive maintenance, including the main facility, staff housing units, and other Isuarsivik buildings.
  • Conducts regular inspections and maintenance as provided by the inspection and maintenance registries.
  • Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; ensures fueling and operation of our heating apparatus pilot lights.
  • Monitors equipment and systems and reports any breakdown detected when performing such work.
  • Completes any minor repair work.
  • Assists specialized vendors when performing repairs and project
  • Uses, stores, and disposes of various products required in carrying out their duties safely, while respecting standards.
  • Moves furniture, handles transport, and stores goods and materials; operates the equipment required to carry out the work.
  • Conducts inventory for maintenance parts, equipment, and products and manages procurement.
  • Prepares rooms and halls according to the arrangements when requested.
  • Follows training on all systems of the new buildings and continued education on maintenance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


  • High School Diploma.
  • Diploma of vocational studies (an asset).
Work experience
  • 3 years of experience in the sector of the position.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to carry out the maintenance work and preventive and physical upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of how to properly use the various equipment, supplies and cleaning products to effectively clean the premises.
  • Capability to identify the needs in materials, products, and equipment required to perform the tasks and properly dispose of products in a safe manner, while respecting standards.
  • Knowledge to use a computer and the necessary software to perform their duties, upon request (an asset).
  • Capacity to ensure adequate security against fire and theft.
  • Personal and professional experience in a cross-cultural setting.
  • Strong ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to work outside standard office hours.
  • Willingness to submit to a criminal record check.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Inuktitut as well as English (mandatory).
  • Ability to read, write, and speak French (an asset).

  • Isuarsivik is undergoing a major transition that requires flexibility, creativity, and adaptability.
  • The incumbent must balance multiple demands and urgent requests from guests, staff, and partners.
  • The incumbent must also be prepared to meet the personal and professional challenges associated with living in a northern, isolated community with limited resources.

Salary / Benefits

  • Working conditions are based on Nunavik’s health and social services network.
  • Salary will be determined depending on qualifications and experience.

  • Mentorship or training program available (if requirements are not met).
