The Coordinator – Land plays a crucial role in supporting the Inuit Values and Practices Department as follows:
- Manage, arrange, and coordinate the land guides for all the outings on the land as
part of the in-house program. - Replaces land guides on outings when necessary.
- Promotes the development of Inuit identity and culture among staff and guests.
- Establishing wellness and safety practices to foster a positive and empowering recovery environment and workplace for both guests and staff.
- Coordination of the maintenance and upkeep of cabins, ski-doo’s, tents, axes, key-control, fishing and all necessary equipment.
- Reporting and participation in coordination meetings.
Purpose of position
Under the direction of the Inuit Values and Practices Manager, the Coordinator – Land is responsible to lead all land activities with guests and staff while ensuring their safety. The Coordinator – Land assists with the daily functions of the IVP Department including preparation for cultural activities as well as maintenance of cabins, equipment and vehicles; all the while communicating, sharing and demonstrating cultural and environmental knowledge.
Essential duties
and responsibilities
Planning
- Coordinate land guide activity, determine the route to be followed and the time of departure based on weather conditions ensuring the safety of all participants.
- Coordinate the preparation, logistics and maintenance of all equipment being used
for activities.
Guiding
- Inform guests and accompanying staff of the plan for the effective delivery of the activities and ensure compliance with all the laws and regulations related to the protection, development and use of the territory.
- Report all violations of the laws, regulations, and non-compliance with the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement to immediate supervisor.
Maintenance
- Complete activity reports.
- Lead the preventive maintenance program for the Department.
- Maintain inventory and submit to the IVP Manager any purchase orders for material, tools and other equipment needed to ensure the upkeep and proper operation of equipment.
- Perform other duties as required by management.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma
- Wilderness and Remote First Aid training
- Training in survival skills on the land.

Work experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a guide.
- Strong experience in navigation at sea or on land.
- Basic experience in supervision would be considered an asset.
- Experience in the field of social intervention would be considered an asset.
- Experience in the field of addictions would be considered an asset.
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to draft reports, documents and work plans on a computer.
- Personal and professional experience in a cross-cultural setting.
- Strong ability to work independently and/or in a team.
- Ability to work outside standard office hours.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Candidate must be willing to submit to a criminal records check.
Language
- Ability to read, write and speak Inuktitut as well as English are mandatory.
Work environment
- The incumbent must balance multiple demands and urgent requests from guests, staff and partners.
- The incumbent must be prepared to meet the personal and professional challenges associated with living in a northern, isolated community with limited resources.

Salary / Benefits
