The Attendant plays a crucial role in:

  • Ensuring that guests are safe and secure during the evenings and weekends when the rest of the clinical team is not at the Centre.
  • Ensuring they do not counsel the guests but act as a resource to both guests and the rest of the clinical team in order to ensure information is passed on to the correct team members.

Purpose of position

Under the direction of the Recovery Program Manager, and the day to day supervision of the Lead Trauma Addictions Counsellor, the Attendant is responsible for the Centre and guests during evenings and weekends.

Essential duties
and responsibilities

Guests
  • Welcomes guests and performs the welcome intake procedure for Attendants.
  • Reviews the previous shift report and updates the shift report at the end of each shift.
  • Listens to guests that may be processing the experience of their stay and report back to Counsellors when required.
  • Contacts the Counsellor on-call for all crisis situations.
  • Handles guest medications according to the medication protocol.
Center
  • Verifies that all chores are completed by the guests.
  • Ensures guests are following the house rules and program expectations.
  • Answers the phone and directs calls as required.
  • Attends all staff meetings.
  • Accompanies guests on any outings out of the Centre.
  • Verifies the Center is secure during their shift (locks, doors, windows, offices etc.).
  • Verifies that the kitchen is secured (stove, knives etc.).
  • Ensures there are no visitors at the Centre outside of visiting hours. Visitors outside of visiting hours need to be pre-authorized by the Recovery Program Manager.
  • Performs other related duties assigned by the Program Recovery Manager.

Qualifications

Education
  • High School Diploma would be an asset.
  • Willingness to enroll in a training program.
Work experience
  • 1-2 years in a similar position.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Personal and professional experience in a cross-cultural setting.
  • Strong ability to work independently and/or in a team.
  • Ability to work outside standard office hours.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs and ability to use a computer.
  • Candidate must be willing to submit to a criminal records check.
Language
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Inuktitut as well as English (mandatory).
  • Ability to read, write and speak French (an asset).

Work environment

  • Isuarsivik is undergoing a major development process that requires flexibility, creativity and adaptability.
  • The incumbent must balance multiple demands and urgent requests from guests, staff and partners.
  • Must be prepared to meet the personal and professional challenges associated with living in a northern, isolated community with limited resources.

Salary / Benefits

  • Working conditions are based on Nunavik’s health and social services network.
  • Salary will be determined depending on qualifications and experience.
  • Probation period.
  • Mentorship or training program available (if requirements are not met).

It is the Centre’s objective to favor and promote the employment of beneficiaries from one of the Inuit land claims agreements. Therefore, it is at the discretion of the Board to waive any of the qualification requirements and implement a training or mentoring plan if necessary.
